Laser Removal of Hyperpigmentation and Erythema

Circle

Laser removal of hyperpigmentation and erythema is a very effective method to even out the skin tone. Patients often use this treatment to prevent their problems from getting worse and avoid the formation of spider veins. Proper skin care is necessary to stay healthy and not just to feel well.

Laser removal of skin pigmentation and erythema – who is it for?

Laser removal of skin pigmentation and erythema is a procedure for such conditions as rosacea, telangiectasias (vascular spider veins), cherry and flat hemangiomas. It is also indicated for visible hyperpigmentation and port wine stains, i.e. congenital, mild capillary malformations, usually located in the neck and head area.

What is the purpose of the procedure?

IPL, i.e. intense pulsed light, is used to remove discolorations and erythema. Skin tone is evened out and the visibility of unsightly lesions significantly reduced. A special system comprising three filters concentrates the light with a wavelength of 450 – 600 nm, which is selectively absorbed by oxyhemoglobin and melanin. During the treatment your skin is not exposed to light of a different wavelength, which guarantees safety and greater patient comfort. The results are visible already after the first session with the Alma Harmony XL PRO Dye laser. For optimal results it is recommended to have a series of 4 treatments at 3-week intervals.

How to prepare? Course of the treatment

How should you prepare for the procedure? Your skin should not be tanned, avoid microdermabrasion, deep peeling, as well as preparations with vitamin A derivatives, including retinol and isotretinoin, a month before the planned session. It is also not recommended to use cosmetics containing acids and vitamin C. You should avoid drinking marigold and St. John’s wort teas and preparations a week before.

Laser removal of discolorations and erythema does not require any anaesthetic. The procedure usually takes from 15 to 30 minutes. You will not feel any pain, only some burning, stinging or pinching. A regenerating protective cream will be applied to the treated skin surface after the procedure. You can resume your daily activities practically immediately, although initially redness and slight swelling may be visible on the face. On day two discolorations usually become darker and after about 5 days they begin to peel off, as a result of which they are less visible or disappear completely. For the first three days after the treatment, the patient should use a protective preparation to support skin regeneration, and it is advisable to protect the skin against UV rays (SPF 50) for another month. It is also important to remember to avoid alcohol consumption, sauna, hot baths, strenuous physical exercise and similar activities that that make blood rush to the skin or make it hot for a week.
